
The students predict how many seeds are on one sunflower. Then we count to check, 1280 seeds!? They discover many things about sunflowers with their magnifying glass. Some observations include: prickly stems, fuzzy seeds, missing and rotting seeds. We had some great discussions about the sunflower’s defense mechanisms, and who stole the seeds while they were still out in the garden. We play Earth Toss, tally the number of times our right thumb lands on water or land, and calculate the percentage of water on Earth, fun way to collect data!
